Whenever I travel internationally I'm constantly reminded how poorly US Based airlines manage the travel experience. Flying on TAM and Aerolineas Argentinas was an absolute pleasure. The flight attendants are wonderful.
Contrast that with United Airlines where within 15 minutes of boarding our flight a member of the US based crew yelled at us because our overhead bin was not shut. She actually stood over us and demanded that we get up and close the bin. And that was the start. We dealt with this surly flight attendant for all 10 hours of our flight from Sao Paolo to Chicago.
To be fair, there were good flight attendants as well. I know the last decade has been tough for those in the aviation industry, but lets face it. If you need a reminder about how to make your customers flying experience a pleasurable one, fly any European or South American Airlines.
For those of you who missed it...last year there was a video "United Breaks Guitars". Very funny, but pointed. It looks to me that United hasn't learned their lesson - yet. Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo. It's had over 11 million hits. It's worth the 4 minutes of your time
